My diploma project Knocking On The
Wood was inspired firstly by believes in superstitions and divination's
and secondly by the national Georgian folk costume. Each of the jewelry items
in this collection is inspired by the true story or a memory based on
particular superstition, which has been passing from generation to generation
in my family. In addition to that, materials used in the jewelry such as glass,
horsehair or garnet stones are as well closely related with personal memories
from the family archive. At the same time, the choice of colors, form and
ancient metalworking technique, as for instance Repoussé, is inspired mainly by
Georgian national folk costume.
The process of creating these pieces for me was an incredible chance of
exploring and researching the past of my family.
